Where Play and Place Become One

Set within the ecological richness of Eagleby Wetlands, this nature play park invites children to engage with the environment through movement, exploration and sensory connection. Inspired by the life cycle of the Latham’s Snipe—a migratory bird species native to the area—the design integrates storytelling, natural materials and unstructured play into a seamless outdoor experience.

Project Overview

The Eagleby Wetlands span a vast environmental reserve, home to migratory and resident bird species, native flora and winding waterways. Renowned for its walking trails and scenic vistas, it’s a place where the community connects with nature—and now, a place where children can do the same through play.

Designed in alignment with this unique ecosystem, the play space draws on the Rustik range, with the Mulleringa system as its centrepiece. A timber-based structure crafted from sustainable hardwoods and reclaimed materials, this system is more than a play unit; it’s an organic structure that blends beautifully into the natural landscape.

The Finished Space

The Rustik Mulleringa encourages freeform exploration through its elevated platforms, climbing zones and organic layout. It supports balance, coordination, core strength and social interaction—all key to early childhood development. Unlike traditional playgrounds, its open-ended design fosters imagination, challenge and connection with the environment.

This space honours the wetlands’ broader purpose: to protect biodiversity, connect people to nature and celebrate the beauty of the Australian bush. The result is a park that feels grounded, intentional and deeply local.
