Reid Park
Nature-Inspired Play
A Sandy Adventure Overlooking Sydney Harbour
Tucked within a lush coastal valley in Mosman, Reid Park’s new playground is a standout addition to one of Sydney’s most scenic reserves. Surrounded by rich vegetation and with views overlooking Sydney Harbour, the site demanded a design that felt as special as its surroundings — durable enough to endure the salt-laden foreshore environment, yet generous and welcoming for children of all ages and abilities

Scope:Â Local Park Upgrade

Project Overview
Working alongside Mosman Council and informed by meaningful community consultation, PARX was engaged to deliver a standout play space that could serve as the heart of Reid Park’s ‘Sandy Adventure Zone’. The brief was clear: create an inclusive, nature-connected play environment that would delight children, bring families together and reflect the unique character of this Harbour-side reserve.
The centrepiece of the installation is the Rustik Tallaganda Hut — a signature timber-framed structure that anchors the space with warmth and natural character. Given Reid Park’s proximity to the bay, all metal components were upgraded to stainless steel to ensure long-term performance in the corrosive coastal environment.
Alongside the Tallaganda Hut, a Viking Swing was modified from its standard four-user configuration to a compact three-person variant to fit the site’s compressed footprint without sacrificing the social, multi-user swinging experience that makes these pieces such a hit with communities.
The playground upgrade was developed in consultation with the community, with valuable ideas and feedback incorporated into the design. It’s wonderful to see our young residents now enjoying this revitalised space.”
— Mayor Ann Marie Kimber, Mosman Council
The Finished Space
Set within the Sandy Adventure Zone, the play space feels genuinely embedded in its environment. Anchored by the Tallaganda Hut, a commanding timber structure rising from the sand, rope net climbing challenges and a thrilling slide draw children in from across the park.
Sand softfall gives the zone its earthy, adventure-playground character — cushioning landings while adding to the sensory richness of the space. Natural rock edging and mulch borders frame the play area organically, blurring the line between playground and the surrounding bushland. With a backdrop of towering gums and the valley’s lush canopy overhead, the equipment feels like it belongs.
The result is a space that rewards energy and imagination in equal measure.
