Project Overview
The iconic Riverboat Paddle Steamer play system stands at 4.9 metres and spreads over three levels, inviting children of all ages and abilities to climb, explore and imagine. Inspired by shallow draft paddle steamers, the structure features twin smoke stacks, stylised paddle wheels, and curved architectural detailing that gives a nod to the past while keeping things playful.
Materials were chosen with longevity in mind—epoxy-painted steel, powdercoated aluminium and steel-core nylon ropes ensure the space remains durable and vibrant for years to come.
With an inclusive layout and a mix of active, imaginative and sensory experiences, the space supports a wide range of play styles from high-energy climbs to quiet cubby play.
The Finished Space
Children are invited to step into a world of sea-faring stories where pirates chart unknown waters, mermaids call from the shallows and river explorers race in search of new adventures. From the tactile paddle wheels to the audio-activated steering wheel, every detail is designed to spark curiosity and bring the play narrative to life.
Next to the main play structure, a quieter garden area encourages nature-based exploration. Rocky mounds, sandstone blocks and a hand-carved timber canoe offer a different kind of adventure rooted in the land and its stories. It’s a thoughtful nod to the area’s cultural and environmental heritage.
A nearby basket swing, spinners and inclusive orbit add even more variety, offering spinning, swinging and social connection in a format that welcomes everyone. Down the track is the Goodna Fitness Trail invites movement for all ages, rounding out the park’s active offering.
